In reply to <a href="https://feastandfarm.com/diet-for-cidp-guillain-barre-syndrome/comment-page-1/#comment-140162">Hannah</a>.

Hi Hannah, no I didn't eat any fruit except 1/2 cup of frozen blueberries or raspberries once a day on my full fat yogurt. Winter squash...I don't love it but I could have had it if I had wanted it I suppose. For honey I used 1 teaspoon in my yogurt to sweeten it and that was my treat. Blood sugar regulation is ESSENTIAL for CIDP considering byproducts of blood sugar spikes are stored in myelin causing the immune response to be worse. We don't want blood sugar going up more than necessary. I wasn't keto but I stuck to low carb fruits and vegetables, meats, fats and cultured/fermented dairy. I would never (and don't now) eat plentiful amounts of any complex carbs, honey, baked goods, sweet treats, etc. I like walking too much! The virus didn't really need to be tested for because honestly there are too many that are common in America anyway. Over 90% of us are positive for Epstein Barr even if we have never had mono. I had chickenpox as a kid so I had CMV in my system already. Anyone with a fever blister carries a strain of Herpes virus. We could see a persistent chronic pattern inside the CBC/white cells and I had a very cyclical type of CIDP. So I'd be better slightly for a day or two then bad again for a week, good for a day or two, bad again...over and over again. I was also developing occasional exanthem rashes on my trunk and back which are typical as the body fights viruses. All the signs were there. Clearing it was one of the best things I ever did for my CIDP. 6 years of healing and still going strong! --Rachel

Thank you for sharing your story! On the GAPS diet, did you still eat fruit, honey, or winter squash (carbs basically)? If so, would you say your diet was still pretty low-carb overall, or did you eat these things in plentiful amounts every day? Also, how were you able to test for the virus?
